Radiance-based retrievals and data assimilation require radiative transfer models (RTMs) to simulate radiances and quantify their sensitivities to atmospheric and surface conditions. Conventional RTMs often rely on separately maintained forward, tangent-linear, and adjoint codes, complicating model development and extension.
